Turn telnet back on

I guess windows likes to baby the stupid, and insult the intelligent.

Here's how to get telnet back up and running.

  1. Open Control Panel'
  2. Then go into Programs and Features
  3. Then in Programs and Features there should be a part that says ‘Turn windows features on or off ‘'
  4. Click Turn windows features on or off then on the list that appears simply choose: Telnet Client

The only reason I still use telnet is to see if ports are responding on other machines. I use telnet on Mac, Linux, Unix and Windows the same. Here's an example to see if SSH is responding on a machine.

$ telnet www.example.com 22
